Endorsing
The holder of a bill of exchange, order form, cheque or original Bill of Lading transfers this document to a third party (the endorsee) whose name he may or may not know, by putting his signature and company stamp on the back of the document. If the document is a Bill of Lading, it is usually a To Order Bill of Lading, with regard to which the shipping company must at all times be able to assess which successive parties have transferred the original to each other.
