As an entrepreneur, the last thing on your mind is transport insurance. Still, taking out such insurance can prevent a lot of misery. When booking a shipment, your goods are not automatically insured.
Continuous transport insurance
Fortunately, Embassy Freight Rotterdam offers continuous transport insurance. For a small additional fee per shipment, you can make use of this insurance. This gives you the coverage you need for both national and international shipments. If you wish to make use of our insurance, please inform us in writing in advance.
Liability insurance is not the same thing
The transporter always has liability insurance. This is not the same thing as transport insurance, however. The liability insurance will only pay out if the transporter is indeed the one responsible for the damage. Payment is based on weight and/or volume, which means that the payment you receive might be considerably lower than the actual value of the damaged goods.
The Incoterms are not sufficient
The Incoterms are also insufficient to fully cover the risk of damaged or lost property. Incoterms determine when liability is assigned to the various parties involved. It is advisable to customise your transport insurance based on the applicable Incoterms.
