Carrier Owned Container (COC)

A carrier owned container is a container – which can be new or used – owned by a shipping company and used by the shipper or consignee to transport cargo. With a COC Container, the carrier owns and will provide the container and take care of the shipment of it. The price for use of the container is included in the ocean freight price. The vast majority of container business (+95%) is done with carrier owned containers. A carrier owned container may also be referred to as a Liner owned container.
