China will once again celebrate the annual Golden Week from October 1 to 7. In addition, this year the Mid-Autumn Festival falls on September 25–27, leaving only three regular working days between the two holiday periods. This may cause additional congestion and disruptions even before the official Golden Week.
During Golden Week many companies, factories, customs authorities, terminals and freight forwarders are largely closed or operate with minimal staffing. This can lead to delays in production, handling and transport.
Shipping lines also adjust their sailing schedules and cancel sailings, known as blank sailings. This temporarily reduces available capacity and can affect both import shipments from Asia and departures to the Far East in the subsequent period.
