As of 1 July 2026, the Dutch government will officially introduce a truck toll for vehicles weighing more than 3,500 kg. The toll will apply to almost all motorways and a large portion of provincial and municipal roads throughout the Netherlands.
The amount payable will be determined based on vehicle weight, emission class, and the number of kilometres driven. Through this measure, the government aims to invest in infrastructure, support the sustainability of transport, and encourage the use of cleaner vehicles.
The introduction of this toll is expected to result in higher road transport costs. This will affect both container transportation and groupage shipments. Carriers and logistics service providers are expected to pass on part of these additional costs through their pricing structures.
Embassy is closely monitoring developments and will continue to inform customers throughout June about the anticipated impact on transport costs. In addition, we are actively exploring alternative transport options and more efficient logistics solutions to minimise the effects wherever possible. One example is the increased use of barge transportation.
We will, of course, keep you informed of further developments and any specific changes to our services.
